Miscellaneous Information:

Kathryn Womack is an undergraduate pursuing her B.S. in American Sign Language/English Interpretation from the National Technical Institute of the Deaf at RIT. She has been working with the HCC group since October 2011. Her primary interest is in understanding how cognitive processing and uncertainty are expressed in speech. The projects she has pursued includes studying the relationship of speech errors to factors such as speaker gender and expertise; using machine learning techniques to predict whether physicians' diagnostic accuracy and confidence; and exploring the structure of medical narratives through semantic units of conceptual thought. Future avenues of research will be to study the narrative structure and how that relates to uncertainty and diagnostic correctness. Her current project is developing language models to automatically label semantic units of thought in the narrative.
